The goodbyes actually included the four of us Interns (two weeks prematurely), one intern from Panama, two year-long fellows from the U.S. and a WFP employee who is moving back to Rome. So though we aren't leaving right away they were nice enough to throw this party in our honour as well. It definitely made me happy to see the faces of the whole office again, but also quite sad as this means that my time in Panama is coming to an end.
Another thing I noticed was that with WFP its never really goodbye, but more of a 'see you later, because most employees are rerouted to another UN office somewhere around the world, or they stay in town or in touch enough to really still be a big part of your life. In a way I kind of like this system because worldwide, you have friends of all different backgrounds coming together to help work towards a great cause.
