Our first night in Osaka was super relaxing because we headed home after the Isakaya and I managed to finally shift my sleeping schedule a little closer to normal Japanese waking hours. Previously I'd been so jet lagged that I woke up at 3 or 4 am Japan time and went to sleep around 9 or 10pm. The plan for the day was to take a short train ride over to Kyoto, a city well known for its many temples and classic architecture.
Fushimi Inari Shrine (South Kyoto)
Kyoto has so many different temples and shrines to offer that we originally picked out our favourites (based on the unique features they had to offer) and then with our 500 Yen day pass we took the local bus system to and from each of the temples! The first stop was Fushimi Inari Shrine known for its many pagodas (which they add more and more each year.

Kiyomizudera Temple (West Kyoto)
The second location we visited was the Kiyomizudera Temple known for its lavish architecture and spectacular view as it is situated on a hill, so we could see wonderful landscapes of Kyoto. The entire structure was built without nails!

Park/Temple (West Kyoto)
For lunch we stopped in a Temple with a beautiful bridge and lake. At the park I had freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and a Black Charcoal Ice Cream cone which was advertised as 'flavourless and odourless' but to me it tasted like a wonderful twist on black sesame and vanilla with a little something that resembled honey!

Kinkakuji Temple (North East Kyoto)
After our resting break, we travelled across the city to the infamous Kinkakuji Temple (or Golden Temple). The structure is a classical Japanese temple wrapped in a golden foil and situated on a beautiful lake and surrounded by trees. This was the highlight of our trip in Kyoto and because of our impeccable timing we got to see the building in its glory during sunset! Of course the images look great but really you have to see this wonderful temple in person to get the full effect of its magical aura!

While in Kyoto, I couldnt leave the city without trying their special style of Sushi. Kyoto is known for a type of sushi called Saba Sushi which uses Mackerel and wraps it in a thicker seaweed. This delicacy was absolutely fantastic! Perfect if you love sushi, also if you dont mind the 'fishy' taste and abundance of seaweed and rice then its also perfect for you!
The plate also came with some great Soba a rice dessert as well as a eggplant slice that was coated in two different sauces. Overall a very good meal to top off a great day trip to Kyoto!
